Location

Industrial Park Brunsbüttel, Germany

Project name

Plant warning system

General project description

With an area of 2,000 hectares, the ChemCoast Park Brunsbüttel is the largest industrial area in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. For more than 30 years, companies of the chemical sector and oil industry, energy producers as well as logistics companies have been located here.

The aim of the project was to enable the security control center to selectively address any available warning and intercom system on the plant premises. Pre-defined and dynamic groups can also be addressed as well as all speakers of the respective plant warning systems. The aim was to directly broadcast the event information throughout all automatically selected areas. In case of an event, all speakers of the different production facilities, which are selected automatically and can be addressed at once, are switched on. Thanks to this new solution the control center staff no longer has to manually forward event messages. This ensures that there is no time delay in the propagation of information and that the content of the message is not subject to misinterpretations. Connection is carried out via the new separate security network in ring topology especially set up for this purpose.

Special features

  • The plant warning system is configured according to the redundancy concept "Duplicated Control System". Here, a completely redundant system runs in standby mode to continue the operation in case components fail which are relevant for alarm broadcasting. This ensures highest availability of the plant warning system in case of failure.
  • The current wind direction and speed is measured at one central point in the Industrial Park Brunsbüttel. This data is provided to the plant warning system via network. This information is analyzed via an application and the warning systems affected are selected so that they can propagate the corresponding warning messages.
  • People can obtain safety and warning messages via the info telephone. This feature is technically implemented in the plant warning system. For this purpose, a telecommunication gateway was installed and connected to the customer network. This way, people can inform themselves about the current events on the plant premises.
  • In case of a real alarm or during a test run, the plant warning system sends an email with all relevant information to the fire department for event logging purposes.
