VLAN

A virtual local area network is a closed private network within a larger network where several terminal devices are grouped by logical addresses (VLAN IDs). These devices don't have to be physically connected. They often belong to different LAN segments.

Switches are used to connect individual terminal devices within a virtual network. Routers are used to connect several VLANs. Here, it is necessary that both connecting devices support VLAN.
