Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

A connection-oriented network protocol at layer 4 of the OSI model that is primarily used together with the Internet Protocol.

As transport protocol, TCP provides a secure connection between two network nodes. Among other tasks, it ensures that the data packets are delivered to the target node without damage and in the correct order.
